In Loving Memory Of Lionel ‘Li’ Barnes

It is with great sadness that Aldbourne Band announces the passing of Lionel Barnes, affectionately known as Li.

Li started playing with Aldbourne aged 9 in 1956, being the third generation of his family to play with the band, before retiring in 2017, an incredible 61 years. His legacy continues with his son Luke and granddaughter who play in the senior and youth bands respectively.

In his roles as trustee and vice president, he continued to give so much to the band, and his dedication, friendship and support will be very greatly missed by everyone in our banding family.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Li’s family and friends at this very sad time.

The funeral service will take place at St Michael’s Church, Aldbourne, at 12 noon on 6th November.

For those wishing to attend, parking will be available at Ridgeway Barns from 11:00am, with toilets available. A coach will leave Ridgeway Barns at 11:20am to take people to Aldbourne and will return to Ridgeway Barns after the service. Alternatively, people are welcome to make their own way directly to St Michael’s Church.

Any former players who would like to join the band to play in Li’s honour are asked to contact Matt Richardson by this Friday on 07805 241944.
